Game: Philadelphia at Miami (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Miami +1.5 runs -110 (runline)
The wins haven't come easy for either team here, and neither have the runs. The Phillies offense, once one of the best in baseball, has aged into becoming sub-par as they have scored three runs or less in 24 games on the season, making them a ripe candidate on the road to fade on the runline. The Phillies have already been shutout six times on the season. The Marlins' pitching has been superb, allowing a single run in each of their last two games, and the Phillies have been brutal behind Hamels, where they are 1-8 in his last nine starts, and 0-6 vs. a team that scored two or less in their last game. The Marlins are 5-0 behind Sanbia when he pitches following his team allowing two or less in their last game. Runs will be at a premium here, play on Miami on the runline.

Game: Tampa Bay at Toronto (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: Toronto +130 (moneyline)
It has become apparent that the Tampa Bay Rays aren't the same pitching-heavy team they were a year ago. David Price has struggled, Shields is in Kansas City, and Fernando Rodney who was lights-out closing games a year ago, is not even close to what he did a year ago. Factor in Moore who is 8-0, and the Rays are otherwise a bad team. Alex Cobb has dominated at home, but has been very shaky on the road. Ramon Ortiz has given the Blue Jays' rotation a lift at 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. The Jays have played well in expected higher than normal scoring games, taking their last five with a total of 9 to 10.5. The Rays are just 2-8 behind Cobb after scoring 5+ in their previous game. Go with Toronto.

Game: Seattle at Los Angeles Angels (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -1.5 runs +110 (runline)
The Los Angeles Angels are in familiar territory as they started slow last year, and have done so again this season. Signs of change are blowing in the wind, as the Angels' bats appear to be catching up to the talent they possess. The Halos have won three straight on the strength of 30 runs, and look to closeout the Mariners here tonight. The Ms are in a team-wide slump at 0-5 in their last five, having been shutout twice, and getting beat by a combined 39-17 score. One area that the Angels have shined is at home vs. a losing team, where they are 12-4 in their last 16. These teams are heading in opposite directions for now, so play the Angels on the runline.

Game: Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh (12:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: Pittsburgh -135 (moneyline)
The Pittsburgh Pirates have suffered through a couple of decades of futility. But it appears that is going to end this season. The Pirates at 28-18 are legitimate contenders, and hot ones at that, having registered 10 wins in their last 12 games. They have outscored those 12 opponents 50-29, and the pitching has been sensational. The Cubs are an equally frustrated organization, but have not turned the corner, or even come close for that matter . The Cubs enter this game at 11-40 in their last 51 as a dog from +110 to +150. The Pirates have been lethal at home vs. right-handed pitching, at 7-0 in their last seven. Go with Pittsburgh.

Game: St. Louis at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers +105 (moneyline)
While the St. Louis Cardinals are off and running to a 30-16 start, the LA Dodgers have been an underachieving team with a disappointing 19-26 start. Chris Capuano, after starting the season in the pen for the Dodgers, was elevated to the rotation because of injuries. Capuano has been a streaky pitcher over his career. When he is in a rut, he tends to stay there, but when he pitches well he often strings together several strong outings. He is on a roll now, allowing just a single run in each of his last two starts, covering 13.2 innings. I expect him to have another strong outing tonight. The Cards' Achilles heel has been vs. left-handed pitching where they have dropped their last four. Go with the Dodgers.

Game: Indiana at San Antonio (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Game Total OVER 145 (-110)
The Indiana Fever begins defense of their 2012 WNBA Title tonight in San Antonio. Once a defensive-oriented team, the Fever averaged 78.3 points per game in their 10 playoffs games. This team is now on the move offensively. These teams only meet twice a year, as they are in opposing conferences, but last year they supplied a lot of points with a combined 160 generated in each game. I expect Indiana to come out doing what they do best and that is running the floor. And, as we saw a year ago San Antonio will be a willing participant. This should be an up-tempo game, so play on the OVER.

Game: Detroit at Chicago (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Detroit +175 (moneyline)
The Detroit Red Wings were not supposed to be here, but they closed the season with four straight wins, and clinched a playoffs berth with a win on the last day of the season. Then they went on to shock Anaheim in their opening round playoffs series, and now have an unthinkable 3-1 lead against Chicago. The Red Wings are in their 19th straight playoffs series, and are playing like a playoffs savvy team. They were beaten soundly in Game One by Chicago 4-1, and could have easily folded up shop and moved on, but this team has responded with three straight wins. The three straight losses by Chicago is a first this season, and the last time they dropped three straight was February of last year. The three losses haven't been squeakers either, as they have been outscored 9-2. Chicago simply has not played well, having gone 7-7 in their last 14 games. The Red Wings are 9-2 in their last 11 on one day of rest, and have it all going now. Take Detroit.

Game: Miami at Indiana (8:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: First Half UNDER 91 (-110)
This will be a slow, defensive game, especially in the first-half. Paul George has been the primary defender on LeBron James and has done a very good job. Indiana plays its best defense at home and will be sky-high for this one. The Pacers out-rebounded the Heat 55-36 in the first meeting here in January, and Miami shot just 41% while Indiana shot 36 percent. That was a season low in points for the Heat going UNDER the total by 23 points. In that meeting Miami was limited to one fast break point to Indiana's five. In the rematch a month later, Miami had six fast break points, the Pacers 12, as both teams dictated tough defense and a slower pace. With even more at stake now the pace will be even slower, and you will see a monster defensive effort from both sides. The Pacers are 37-17 to the first-half UNDER following a win this season. Take Indiana and play the first-half UNDER.
